Methodology for Minimizing Risk from Airborne Organisms in Hospital Isolation Rooms
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper compares the use of ultraviolet germicidal irradiaiton (UVGI) with increased ventilation flow rate to minimize the risk from airborne bacteria in hospital isolation rooms. Results show that the number of particles deposited on surfaces and vented out is greater in magnitude than the number killed by UV light and that the numbers for these two mechanisms are large compared to the total number of particles.

Monitoring of Airborne Fungi in Two General Hospitals in Shiraz, Southern Iran
Hospitalized patients have a potential risk for nosocomial infections. Airborne fungi are one of the main causes of fungal infections in this group. The objective of this study was to investigate the concentrations and species of airborne fungi in two general hospitals in Shiraz, southern Iran. Air samples were collected from high-risk wards, using settle plate method. Fungal colonies were iden...
متن کاملIsolation rooms for tuberculosis control.
A survey of respiratory isolation rooms in seven St. Louis hospitals reported in this month’s issue. begins to verify a general suspicion that many hospitals lack adequate facilities for treating patients with airborne infectious diseases such as tuberculosis (TB). Respiratory isolation rooms should be under continual “negative pressure” relative to hallways and anterooms, so that air flows fro...
متن کاملBacterial Aerosol in Silesian Hospitals: Preliminary Results
The concentration levels of airborne bacteria were measured in clinical/hospital rooms in Upper Silesia, Poland, in buildings of varying conditions. It was found that the typical level of bacterial aerosol concentration is about 10 3 CFUm -3 in clinical outpatient rooms and ranges from 10 2 CFUm -3 to 10 3 CFUm -3 in hospitals, depending on the number of occupants and physical quality of the bu...

Background: Ventilation plays a crucial role in reducing the number of air transmitted pathogens in isolated rooms. Determination of the suitable type of ventilation system and the proper ventilating rate has always been a challenge. Patients’ bed arrangement and the location of the staff are also expected to influence the occupational exposure of the staffs’ to harmful airborne particles. The...
متن کاملNatural Ventilation for the Prevention of Airborne Contagion
BACKGROUND Institutional transmission of airborne infections such as tuberculosis (TB) is an important public health problem, especially in resource-limited settings where protective measures such as negative-pressure isolation rooms are difficult to implement. Natural ventilation may offer a low-cost alternative. Our objective was to investigate the rates, determinants, and effects of natural ...
